Shortbread is a very traditional Scottish cookie and the names comes from the crumbly texture (from an old meaning of the word short). The first printed recipe was in 1736 from a Scotswoman named Mrs McLintock. Shortbread is widely associated with Christmas and Hogmanay festivities in Scotland.
